Myrtle Beach February Get-Away

We are currently visiting Myrtle Beach.  We have come here several times, usually in February, because we like to have a break from the winter weather back in Ontario.  We left home Friday, January 27 in the morning.  We stopped in Charleston, West Virginia the first night.

Saturday we got off the main highway for a bit. We had taken a wrong exit at some point and on the return to where we should be I saw an exit for Hinton, West Virginia.  I found it on the map and suggested we go there for a break from highway driving.  It was a charming change even though we weren't quite sure where we were for part of the drive.

Unfortunately, I forgot the 'thing' that uploads pictures from my camera to the computer.  I will have to share them later.

We arrived at the timeshare Sunday afternoon.  We are very pleased with our accommodations.  There is a nice screened-in porch where we can see the intracoastal waterway.  There have been a couple times it was warm enough to sit out there.  My complaint is that the framing on the screen is right at eye-level which means I cannot sit and enjoy the view - I have to stand up.

Monday we drove around re-discovering places we have been and figuring out how to get back to where we are staying.  In the afternoon we took a ride on the skywheel.  http://myrtlebeachskywheel.com/

February 1 (Wednesday) we drove to Brookgreen Gardens,  a sculpture garden and wildlife preserve, located just south of Murrells Inlet, in South Carolina.  www.brookgreen.org/  We visited the animals and birds.  It was a beautiful day.

Thursday, we walked around at Broadway at the Beach.  http://www.broadwayatthebeach.com/   It was hard to imagine there will be six more weeks of winter while we were enjoying mid-70s temperatures.  Lots of the tourist traps are closed for the winter but we don't go to those places anyway.  We enjoyed walking around in the sunshine.  There are no crowds like they must get later in the season.

Friday, Himself went golfing.  I was looking forward to that because it meant I could relax and rest.  I did some knitting and played on the computer.  It was a cooler day and there was some light rain but he was dressed properly.  He said his hands got cold.  It was his first time to golf in a couple years.  He wanted to see how he would do.  His arm started to get sore.  He was golfing alone so he quit about the 15th hole so that his arm would not get worse.  He was pleased with how he was hitting the ball.

Saturday we had tickets to see "One The Show" at Alabama Theatre.  http://www.alabama-theatre.com/  Opening night was Friday.  We enjoyed the music, dancing, and comedy.

Sunday the temperature started to warm up again.  After brunch, I finally got to walk on the beach.  Other years we have stayed in places that were close enough to the beach that I could walk there every day.  This year we have to drive to the beach to walk.

And here we sit on Monday morning, trying to decide what to do today.

  1. Sounds like a wonderful trip Judy.. You two are getting to do lots of fun things.. When we go to the beach, we always go north of Myrtle to Ocean Isle... A couple of awesome eating places in Calabash are the Boundary House and Dockside (best seafood around).... We love it there...

    Keep having fun.

    Hugs,
    Betsy
