Catching Up

As much as I think I want to blog, I sure don't do well with keeping up.  My last entry was in April and here we are facing October.  Many things have happened since April.

May 10, my sister-in-law died.  She had suffered a stroke a week earlier.  She was 82 and until the stroke had been in good health.

At the end of May, I flew to Halifax and my sister met me at the airport.  We drove to North Sydney to catch the midnight ferry to Newfoundland.  It was a good crossing although neither of us slept well.  In the morning we drove to Codroy to visit with my sister's daughter-in-law and granddaughter who were visiting from France and staying with her parents.  They made us a wonderful breakfast.  Afterward,  we were given a tour of the area.

My sister and I had a very good week in Newfoundland.  She had been there a few times before but it was my first visit.  We toured the west coast, a part of the province she had not seen.  One of our highlights was seeing icebergs - one of our reasons for choosing that time of year.

At the end of my stay, I traveled by train back to Ontario.

In July, I stayed at my daughter's for a week keeping their cat company while the two of them and their two black labs spent time visiting one of his cousins on Manitoulin Island.  They had a good time and so did Smokey and I.  They have a nice inground pool which I made use of during a hot spell while I was there.

Back home, I enjoyed working in my garden.  My garden is small but even so, it is becoming too big for me to take care of the way I would like to.

My Tuesday mornings are still spent volunteering at the reception desk at Hospice.   We have a good team and we work well together.

Wednesday mornings, I work with a different group of volunteers in our new Welcome Center.  We make small quilts and stuffed comfort bears for the Hospice residents.  One of the ladies will hand-stitch the opening after someone else has stuffed this little bear.

In July we had an unexpected visitor.  He was not very fearful and I was able to get a few pictures.  I saw him two days in a row and then he was gone to parts unknown.

The annual fair is held Labor Day weekend.  My friend and I were looking at some of the quilt displays when my husband called.  He was experiencing pain and called 911.  He was transported to hospital.

We were thinking heart at first  (he had an aortic valve replacement 3 years ago) but it was decided his heart was all right.  After many, many tests over the next week, it was decided he had klebsiella pneumonia.  After a week in hospital, I brought him home to complete his recovery.  He is doing well.

And that pretty much catches me up to today.  Perhaps in October I will do better with keeping track of my blog.
