Quilts of Valour - Canada Society Launched
Through the encouragement and support and enthusiasm of other quilters, Quilts of Valour - Canada Society was formed in 2009 as a Registered Charity. Quilts have been delivered to thousands of Canadian Armed Forces members, past and present, who have been injured while deployed "in theatre" as well as others who are coping with injuries visible and invisible as they have worked to keep us safe, and help us at home and abroad.
These quilts are made by quilters across the country wishing to show their appreciation for the bravery and commitment to Canada and its citizens. The quilts come from individuals, groups and guilds, men and women quilters, young people, retired armed forces members themselves and many with no connection to the military.
The quilts are given as a hug of comfort during their recovery and for many years thereafter and to say "Thank You".
My pictures are not very good as I was not in a good picture-taking position. These are local veterans from World War II and the Korean War. As the quilt was presented, the reader would tell in which branch of the military the veteran served and when. Someone would hold up the quilt for us to see and then she would fold it and wrap it around the shoulders of the person receiving it, as a hug and 'thank you for your service'.
We were sitting at the table with the gentleman in the last picture, Albert Catherwood.
I'm glad we were there. There was a very nice turnout.

How special, Judy... AND---made from the heart!!!! I love quilts although I never had the talent to make any... What fabulous gifts to those SO deserving... AWESOME.

What a marvelous outreach to veterans and others who have served in the military. I really like the idea of the 'hug'.
