It's time for an update. Life is trying to return to what we think of as 'normal'. We have been inside a restaurant for a meal (actually we have done that about 4 times since that started to be allowed two weeks ago). I was inside Wal-Mart for the first time since everything shut down in March 2020. I haven't ventured out to get some needed clothing. Shopping is not something I enjoy so I continue to put it off.
Today is my nephew's 35th birthday. When I sent him his birthday greetings, I told him that I hope we will be traveling to Nova Scotia before the end of the year. We are considering a trip in September. It is my hope that crossing the provincial borders will be easier by then.
This week when I was puttering in my garden, I made the mistake of lifting a small log that has been sitting in one of my gardens for a couple years. When I lifted it, a swarm of yellow jackets flew out and attacked me. I consider myself lucky to have escaped with only 3 stings. Those three stings have been causing me misery since the event. Thankfully I am not allergic but the sites are extremely itchy. The first night I did not sleep well because I kept waking up to scratch. Last night I took something and enjoyed a more restful night.
I have been harvesting cucumbers. I need to find a way to use them. I can eat only so many cucumber slices. We have also had green beans and a couple green peppers. I am trying to be patient as I wait for the tomatoes to ripen.

Ouch, ouch, and ouch! I haven't been stung in years but remember the feeling well. My eldest daughter carries 2 Epi-pens and ends up in the ER immediately as she is now so allergic!
ReplyDeleteFeel better!!!
I harvested so many green beans that there are some in the refrigerator I look at and sigh. I've started giving zucchini away and will do the same with cucumbers shortly. Everything is growing strangely this year. My pepper plants are in miniature and the fruit shrivels. I've enough tomatoes getting ready to ripen now yet nothing growing for next months; the flowers wilt and fall off. Out of 4 butternut squash plants I've only two fruits.
At least none of this is much work, only watch!
Oh, no! So sorry about the stings, but grateful you're not deathly allergic as some are!
ReplyDeleteI have no garden here, but am vicariously enjoying the one son's GF is cultivating over at their place. She posts pictures online, so I can see the mini pumpkins, the zucchini, the tomatoes, et alia.
Nice update and hope you're over those stings soon!
Yikes!! Thank goodness your stings were limited; those hurt.
ReplyDeleteMy mom used to make pickles from garden cucumbers, but as I was a child I'm not sure how much work was involved. The other day my son-in-love made vegetable ceviche with finely chopped vegetables. I remember it involves vinegar, lime juice, a seranno chili pepper and I can't recall what else ... I'm sure you could find a recipe online. (One nice thing about the internet is the ability to find many recipes to try without loading up the budget and the bookshelves with cookery books.
