Walhalla to Mt Hotham
Your Australian Alp trail begins in Walhalla in Victoria, a small gold mining community from the 1800s. From Walhalla make your way through the Alpine National Park, an unusual National Park which allowed cattle grazing in the summer up until 2004. Continue through the national park, luckily it is easy walking as it is summer, to your destination of Mt Hotham. Mt Hotham is home to a ski resort and village; the village is 1750 metres above sea level making it the second highest resort village in Australia.
The track from Walhalla to Mt Hotham is 221km and the challenge requires you to achieve 276,250 steps between the 1st and 31st of March. To reach this target you will need to average around 8,912 steps per day.
I did not achieve my step goals in February. I am aiming for 10,000 steps eventually. March will help me get there.
(The site I use to keep track of my steps is Australian. Maybe someday I will see some of the places I am walking.)
