Lazy Sunday Afternoon

It always amazes me how much time passes between my blog entries.  I enjoy reading other blogs but I think I am so accustomed to keeping my thoughts private that it is difficult to share them on-line.  AND, nowadays, everything is inter-connected.   I take pleasure in knowing that someone has read what I have written and perhaps commented but I seem to fear that the wrong person might read something private.  It isn't that what I am thinking is unusual; it is that I don't often share.  Maybe that is why I don't have many personal friends.

Here we are at the start of a new year.  It is the first Sunday of 2013 and at church we were wishing 'happy new year' to our friends and acquaintances.  Even so, I had already forgotten that just one week ago it was still 2012.

At the end of January, we are planning to drive to Jacksonville, Florida to take a cruise.  It is the same boat (Fascination) as our first cruise last winter.  For years, I tried to persuade Hubby to take a cruise but he didn't think he wanted to.  Part of his reasoning was that he had been in the navy and didn't need to get on another big boat.  I'm not sure what happened but sometime last year, he decided we should do it.  He did the research on-line and made the arrangements.  He enjoyed it enough that we are going again.  We have already decided that we will probably do something different next year.

In the meantime, I am hoping that I will be ready when it is time to go.  Since the middle of August, I have been experiencing pain in my left leg.  I called it sciatica.  I went to the chiropractor and he called it piriformis syndrome.  That's fine, but it didn't get any better after he treated me.  I started going to our massage therapist weekly.  I know massage sounds wonderful but there were times when she was working on me that were quite painful.  I knew that in the long run it would be helpful and mostly it was.

In December, when my leg was still aching and the pain was starting to affect activities like my tai chi classes, I decided to go to the doctor.  I was surprised at how quickly I got an appointment.  I called on a Monday and got an appointment for Tuesday morning.  He arranged for a CT scan and that appointment was quick too.  I had forgotten to make a follow-up appointment with my doctor but his office called as soon as they had results from the scan.

Anyway... I understood what he was saying when he explained it to me but I don't have the right words to pass on that information.  Something is pressing on my spine.  I believe it is L4 or L5.  He explained what he thought should be done.  I came home not even knowing what the procedure is called.  (And I forgot to ask him if he thought I should have the shot against shingles.  I did have it written down but I only remembered to asked him 2 of the questions out of the 3 on my list.  So much for making lists.  :) )  He believed it would be done before Christmas.  However, when the hospital called to schedule my Nerve Block, it is not until January 21.

This weekend my leg has not been as troublesome but my lower back is aching.  It will be good to feel good again.  I am believing that I will.

Happy New Year!  It is going to be a good year.
