When I get started, I enjoy writing. I read many blogs on many topics. With some I feel like I almost know the person. I feel a connection and with some I wish I could actually meet them.
I would like to blog more often but after reading some of the other blogs, mine feels rather blah. I know I am not writing to impress anyone; I am writing mostly for myself so why does it matter - just write.
I enjoy taking pictures. Sometimes when I am taking a picture, I am writing a story around the shot. Rarely do I follow-up and actually write my thoughts and post the picture. Perhaps that is something I can work on.
And so, this is my story about the Spring Thaw that took place on Sunday.
My day started early. I usually have to get up around 4 a.m. for one of those nighttime visits. When I got back in bed, I couldn't get back to sleep. Finally I got up and drank some water. I wanted to have 2 cups before leaving the house.
I ate an orange and some brown rice farina with almond butter and dried cranberries. My son called at 7:45, probably to make sure I was up although he didn't say that. We agreed that we would pick them up at 8:30. My grandson has had a strep throat most of the week and couldn't decided whether or not to run today. After we hung up, I had to get Hubby up.
We didn't get away until 8:20 and it takes about 25 minutes to get to Son's so I sent a message so he would know. When we got to the house, Grandson was dressed to come with us but he still didn't know what he was going to do. Son suggested he pick up his number (since he was pre-registered) so he could get the cap that entrants were getting as part of the registration. It was suggested that he could walk with me but you can imagine how much a 16-year old would want to do that. Hubby was able to find a parking spot near the activity. We thought it might be best if Grandson stayed with Grandpa where he could stay warm in the car if he didn't want to be outside. He was agreeable.
Yes it was cold. (-9 C). The waiting for the start is the part I dislike most. They had the kids' runs and told us to begin moving toward our starting position. We were traveling on residential streets that were blocked off. Part of our trip was on Riverside Drive which runs along the Detroit River. You could see the ice
I didn't get many pictures because I was busy moving but these are some of the runners on their way home after going through the turn-around.
I wasn't quick enough to get a picture of Son when we met.
Results: Son finished 5 out of the 18 in his age category with a 23:05 which was about what he was hoping for. He was 49th overall.
I finished 3/3 in my age category with a 50:07 time. I was 292 out of the 294 in the event.
It was a beautiful sunny day. I was grateful there was no snow or rain and the streets were dry. I got a bit of a chill after I stopped moving, when we were standing around for the results and door prizes but I had a nice hot bath after we got home and started to feel better. It was good.
