Good Friday

We went to the Good Friday service this morning.  It is a good thing we had coffee with our friends earlier in the week or I would not have known the time for the service was changed.  It was good and Hubby was able to hear most of it.

It is a nice day.  This afternoon when he was on his way to meet a friend for coffee, I decided to go for a bike ride - my first for 2014.  It was good.  I went the the end of Snake Lane and back.  That is another way to tell that I am getting stronger.  Last year when I took my bike out, I barely made it around the block.

Jen has helped me a lot in the past year.  I will miss working out with her.  Let's hope I find a way to replace my twice-a-week workouts.  Perhaps she will be able to offer an alternative that is cheaper.  We'll see.

I decided that I need to keep this blog up-to-date to keep track of my thoughts as I learn to run.  Yes, I am still learning.  Skye and I are working on 4 minutes with 1 minute walking breaks.  I forget whether we did 6 or 7 intervals last Saturday.  We both struggled on Saturday and cut back to 3:45 minutes running.  I went out on Tuesday and was able to do the 4 minutes but I haven't run since.  We are going to the Greenway on Saturday.

I enjoy reading running blogs but I haven't (yet) found anyone who is learning to run at 68.  Some seniors write about coming back to running after time off but most of the blogs are by younger people.  I enjoy them but it is hard to compare what I am going through with what a 45 or 55 year old is experiencing.  It DOES make a difference.

I believe that everything I have done over the past year has helped me get here.  I tried yoga and while I decided to give it up for a time, I plan to return to it.  We are not currently doing tai chi but I expect we will again.  Jen had me doing push ups and planks and lifting weights.  It all helped.  Although I wish I had better lung power and endurance, it has improved since I began.  It is hard to know just how much to push myself. I don't want injuries or anything that might slow me down.
