Hospital

Monday started out as a normal Monday.  It was the second Monday in the month which means we go for breakfast with other retirees from the bus company my husband worked for.  When he was working, I didn't know many of the drivers.  Now that he has retired, I enjoy seeing the drivers and their wives.

After we got home, Hubby spent some time on his exercise bike.  In recent weeks, he has been experiencing shortness of breath on various occasions.  He would stop whatever he was doing and huff and puff for a few minutes.  Yesterday there was also a pain in his chest.  It scared him enough that he called his doctor's office. The receptionist told him that the doctor would not be in until 5.  She suggested he go to the hospital and so we went.

It was not terribly busy but it still takes time for things to happen.  He went into a room and they took some blood.  A physician's assistant came and talked to us.  They were concerned because his hemoglobin was low.  They did not seem to be concerned about his heart which I am sure is what took us to the hospital in the first place.  They were waiting to talk to the doctor in charge.  Then someone came in and told us he was going to be admitted.  There was another wait until a bed was ready.  Holly took us upstairs to a room. We had not expected anything like this to happen and were unprepared for a hospital stay.  The battery on his phone died so I could not even leave his phone for him to use.  It was after midnight by the time I got home with a list of things to bring when I returned.  He suggested I wait for his phone call before returning to the hospital.

This morning he did call.  He blood was even lower than last night.  He was still waiting for the doctor to come.  That didn't happen until the middle of the afternoon.  He is being prepped for a colonoscopy Wednesday afternoon.  About 4 I went to visit and take him some things.  While I was there the nurse brought him the 'stuff' he needed to drink.   He was also going to get a blood transfusion after I left.  I expect this will be a long night for him.  He is in a semi-private room.
