Point Pelee

Today was the kind of day we wait all winter for.  It was warm but not hot, the sun was shining and there was no wind.  We heard that there might be rain on Monday so we decided to take advantage of our passes and go to Point Pelee.  Ted wanted to test the new bike rake he got for the van.  It worked just fine.

The road is on the left.  The path on the right is the bicycle/walking path.  It is well cared for.  I enjoy riding my bicycle when I don't have to be worried about cars.

This cute little white flower was blooming in various spots.  I don't know what it is but I like it.

There are few birds I can actually name  - robin, cardinal, hummingbird are a few I know.  I was excited to see the 'splash' of orange in the tree.  I am guessing it was a Baltimore Oriole.  I found the picture of a Baltimore Oriole below on-line and I think 'my' bird was the same although it is hard to tell from my picture.  I zoomed in as best I could.  I tried to look carefully so I could Google it at home.  After we left, I said to my husband, 'now I know why they carry those big cameras.'  We saw lots of birders as the Festival of Birds started on May 1.

Violets are my favourite spring wild flower.  I have lots growing in the yard.

We heard this fishing boat before we saw it.  Again I zoomed.  There were a couple other boats in the same area but they were much quieter.

On our way back, we stopped at the Boardwalk.  I walked around the 3/4 mile boardwalk.  Ted rode his bike back to the van loaded the bikes to go home.  I think this is a beaver dam.  It was the only one I noticed.

These kayakers were just starting out.  While I was sitting, waiting for Ted, I saw a family returning in their canoe.

There are so many red-winged blackbirds.  It always fascinates me how they can perch on top of a blade of grass and it stays upright.

All in all, we had a very enjoyable day.  I hope to return during the Festival of Birds and maybe get in on one of the nature walks with a guide.
