First Ride of Season

Saturday was a beautiful day.  Hubby has had the motorcycle out a few times but for me, it was my first ride of the season.  I like to take pictures from the back of the bike.   This is a selfie that is acceptable.

First stop was for breakfast.  Usually our friends meet us but yesterday, Betty had choir practice so we were on our own.  The Dutch is one of my favourite restaurants.  Once a month I 'splurge' and have a Belgian waffle with strawberries and real whipped cream.  Yesterday I was happy with an omelet.  After breakfast, Hubby informed me we were on our way to Point Pelee.http://www.pc.gc.ca/eng/pn-np/on/pelee/index.aspx  We bought season passes this year for the first time.

When the sun is shining, I like to take shadow pictures too.  That's us on the side of the road.

We saw lots of people out enjoying the fine spring day.  There was a couple in the park on their roller blades.  It is nice to see people moving.

These are the posters outside the Visitors' Center.  We looked around inside and watched a short film with some of the history of Point Pelee.  It is interesting.  We decided to take the shuttle to the Point.

This great aunt and great uncle and 3 1/2 year old triplets were in the same car as us.  The girls were so cute.  It was the uncle who told us that they have been helping out once a week since the girls were born.  I would expect the mom is really happy for the help.

I take a picture of the Welcome to the Tip of Canada every time I see it.  These are random people.  I don't know them.

I also take this one.   It reads:  'You are now just south of the 42nd parallel, as far south as Rome and Barcelona.  Some of Canada's rarest plants and animals are found at Point Pelee because of its mild southerly climate.'

We didn't walk to the Point but we did walk on part of the shore.  The water was really clear.

This tree trunk caught my eye with the exposed roots.

We had a good time.  I think we will be using our passes lots this summer.  The Festival of Birds will start in May.  Birders from around the world come for that.

"Welcome Birders! Witnessing migration at Point Pelee National Park is something you won’t soon forget. Escape to lush forests and awakening wildflowers, savannahs and marsh, the perfect backdrop for the colourful songs of birds. On the trails, have the thrill of the hunt for elusive warblers and meet new friends. From herons to sparrows and sandpipers to warblers, you never know what you’ll find at Point Pelee."

  1. Oh what fun you all must have taking those rides on the motorcycles... Breakfast sounded great --but did you save that waffle just for me??????? Point Pelee sounds like a fantastic place --and reminds me of our love for Biltmore (which we have season's tickets for).. I'd love to see the birds in that area!!!!! Thanks for sharing this beautiful place with us.

    Hugs
