Training Started

Today was our day to go to the hospital.  I took the quilt top I finished a few days ago.  They were happy with it except the sides were not quite straight enough.  They managed to get it sandwiched anyway.  I finished tying the one I started last week before we had to leave early for the funeral.

I have been looking at different training schedules for a half marathon.  The Run for Heroes I signed up for is September 20.  I have to get serious about doing more running.  The schedule I printed off suggests a 3 mile run on Thursday.  The weather forecast is for rain on Thursday so I decided to go today since today is such a beautiful day.  I drove over to the Greenway and started off.  I didn't get far when my phone rang.  Of course I knew who it was.  I was using the Runkeeper app on my phone.  I wasn't sure if it would continue to work while I talked on the phone.  I find it difficult to see the screen when I am outside.  I didn't even realize I hadn't ended the call until I met up with Ted.  I finished walk/running until I got to Ferriss Road.  He had my bicycle so I rode with him and the dogs for a short bit.  He suggested I could ride the bike back to my vehicle but I told him I wanted to finish what I started - which I did.   Today I was running for 2 minutes, walking for one.

When I got back to the van, Ted rode up on his bicycle.  He had dropped the dogs at home and come back to meet me.  He suggested we stop at Tim Horton's but told him later would be better.  I wanted to come home and stretch and get out of my workout clothes.

As I was finished up, I was thinking about making myself a juice when I got back.   We don't have a lot of produce right now but I managed to make a refreshing carrot drink.  I used a lemon, a Granny Smith apple, a piece of ginger and 3 carrots.  I gave Ted a small glass.  The ginger produced some heat which he thought was pepper.  When I asked how he liked it, he said it would be better without the carrots.  It is so hard to get anything healthy into him.  Perhaps it is better that he was satisfied with the small glass because that left more for me.

I think I did about 2.6 miles walk/running and approx. 1 1/2 miles on the bicycle.  Maybe next time I will have a more accurate record.  All I have to do is sneak out of the house so 'you-know-who' doesn't realize I'm gone.  Of course when he does realize, my phone will ring and I will still not have the numbers I want.  Such problems.
