10th Spark Anniversary (2014)

Spark Anniversary

Wednesday, October 01, 2014

October 1, 2014 - You have heard how husbands get in trouble when they forget their anniversary? Well... I don't expect I am in trouble but I did forget my Spark anniversary. This morning when I was thinking about the fact that it is October 1, I realized that September 20 slipped by without a thought.

September 20, 2004 - Before that date, I had not heard of Spark People. I do not remember what I was doing that evening but I must have been exploring web sites and been drawn to Spark People. At the time, there was a small charge to join. Normally I will not spend money to join sites but the charge must have been reasonable enough for me to be willing to give it a try.

Things change in 10 years and Spark People has changed too. Back then we could earn a t-shirt. I forget exactly how but I still have my blue Spark People t-shirt. I get it out when I am planning to meet another Spark friend for the first time. I also have an apron and a gym bag. Because of trying to keep costs down, prizes like those are no longer available to non-US members. I am grateful I was in early enough to have my rewards.

Before it came time to renew my membership, another change took place and the site became free. I know many people are grateful for that change. I am.

I have made many friends here. I have enjoyed meeting some of those friends.

We traveled through a snow storm to meet Barb when she was visiting her son. We met several times after that initial visit. See, we were both wearing our Spark shirts.

(Looking at that picture, I can see that I HAVE lost weight.)

I went through a 'low' period after my mother died. There were Spark friends who reached out to help pull me up again. I am grateful for their kind words and support.

Although I have been here 10 years, I have never reached my goal weight but I am getting closer. It is said that slow and steady wins the race. I WILL someday be a winner. emoticon In the meantime, I am learning patience and good habits.

Yes, I have learned and I am still learning. I am grateful to Spark Guy for his vision. Thank you Spark People.
