After 10K Memory and Kelley's Birth (2014)

My legs are sore. They were really cramping last night at bedtime. Today they are just tired and a little achy. I guess that is to be expected. They worked hard yesterday.

This afternoon we saw my sister-in-law briefly. She is looking so much better. She knew who we were and tried to talk. Apparently she was able to walk with help to the bathroom. We are feeling more hopeful right now. She has been in the hospital for 5 weeks. Twice during that period she spent time in ICU.

From the hospital we drove to the apartment to continue moving things out. We brought another load home and got it stored away until we know what is going to happen next. I think one more trip should do it and we will turn in her keys well before the end of the month.

Do you remember what you were doing 60 years ago on September 22? I do.

Early that morning my father came into our bedroom and gave me and my younger sister our instructions. My 5-year old sister and I were to stay in bed until he came back. He was taking our mother to the hospital where later that day, my brother was born. I don't know if Daddy just left her and came back or if he stayed for a period of time. I know back in those days the role of the father was not to be in the delivery room. I think perhaps our neighbour had been asked to keep an eye on us. We were very obedient girls so if he told us to stay in bed, we did.

Later that week our grandmother came by train to help out. I was thrilled to have a baby brother. The day Mom and the baby came home, I ran home from school because I was so excited to see them.

And so today my 'baby' brother turned 60. There have been a lot of changes in our world since that day he was born in 1954. Happy birthday to my 'little' brother!!
