Pre-Half Marathon, Sept 18, 2015

Still Here

Friday, September 18, 2015

The days surely go by quickly. I would have thought it was only one or two days since my last entry and I have not blogged since Monday.

It has been a 'strange' week - nothing bad just different. I am attributing most of it to my first (only?) half marathon on Sunday the 20th. I have done the 5k and 10k in the World Alzheimer's Day Run For Heroes Marathon in Amherstburg. 2014 was the last full marathon and 2015 is the last year for this particular half. Perhaps I can become known as the last person to complete the half.

I am not concerned about my time because let's face it, I am slow. I will be walking most of the way. I am grateful my daughter is going to be with me. She has another half coming up on October 18 during the Detroit Free Press Marathon. Perhaps this is part of her training. If it is not humid, I am confident I will finish and THAT is my goal.

At the beginning of the year, I was looking for a way to celebrate my significant change of age number in July and decided a half-marathon would be an accomplishment I could be happy with. With so many positive feelings why is my stomach feeling 'off' and why is my head aching? I have been resting and trying to eat well. ('The Beck Diet Solution' is on hold. I am reading my cards but I am not planning meals ahead.)

I am grateful my husband has gone on a bike trip emoticon with 3 other bikes. He left early this morning and will be home late Sunday night. I can be selfish and look after me.

All is well and I am getting excited in spite of these nerves. emoticon emoticon emoticon

I'll be thinking of you and your HM, and of my brother and HIS HM, while I'm stroking, pedaling and running my triathlon on Sunday! This is going to be one awesome weekend, no? And the cool weather is starting to arrive. They tell me the lake temps today were 73 F... so it will indeed be wetsuit legal on Sunday.

Tomorrow ALICIA363 and SPINNINGJW (my two kid sisters) will be undertaking the Run To Overcome, one as a 10K, the other walking the 5K... I'm registered for the 10K and my son picked up my packet so I will show up... but I really don't want to mess up my Sunday race by overdoing Saturday... so I might restrict myself to walking the 5K or such.

And on Monday, we'll Beck blog again! I'm hanging in, how about you? emoticon emoticon

emoticon congratulations coming your way! An awesome way to celebrate a life transition. I agree, your only goal should be to finish. Fuggidaboud setting any records. Actually, you WILL be setting records! This will be your PR for half marathons! Slow down, Speed Racer, you want to be able to slice a few seconds off your time next year.

emoticon We'll see you back on the Beck trek when we see you. We're all over the board on where we are. I think that's one thing I'm learning from Beck: the important thing is to roll with the punches and do the best you can. Training for a half is pretty darn good, sister!
