Harrow Fair 2017

Harrow Fair

Thursday, September 07, 2017

The Harrow Fair is held every year on Labor Day weekend. Last weekend was the fair. Usually we buy a weekend pass and come and go all weekend. We are fortunate to live close enough to walk because there is not much parking available all weekend with so many visitors to our small town.

This year my friend and I walked around looking at displays on Thursday afternoon. The rides start up at 1. Unfortunately, when we were there some of the exhibits were still being judged so we didn't get to see them. We did wander around in the barns checking the animals.

My friend really liked the donkey. We went back twice to say 'hi'.

I guess I am still a farm-girl at heart because I would love to have a couple goats and a few chickens.

Saturday at 11:30 was the parade. The route was changed this year which meant I could go out our back gate with my chair to watch from the sidewalk. This cute little cowgirl was near the beginning, handing out candy. She was maybe six years old and doing a fine job.

A police car leads the way, followed by several fire trucks. There were lots of sirens which can get quite noisy when there are so many vehicles. Since it is a agricultural fair, there are lots of tractors. Some of them are huge. This gentleman is in the parade every year since the 1950s I believe.  He is driving a 1959 John Deere.

My favourite entry was this motorized couch. There is a motor on the back. They were having so much fun.

Of course I have lots more pictures (because I like taking pictures) but I haven't figured out a quick way to upload them so I will quit for this time.
