Poison Ivy 2020

Catching Up

Thursday, July 09, 2020

It seems I have too much to share. I don't know where to start.

I will go back to the weekend. Saturday, my daughter, son-in-law and their two dogs arrived. Daughter took me and her girl-friend, girl friend's daughter and sister to a Winery for a lunch. We sat at a picnic table with a view of the lake. There was a nice breeze and we enjoyed ourselves.

We went back to her friend's house and enjoyed the pool. It was a good way to spend a hot afternoon.

Sunday was my 75th birthday. I woke up with a swollen right eye and cheek. I didn't want to go anywhere. My husband had to tell me that our kids had planned a barbecue at our son's in Windsor. Of course I agreed to go. I stayed apart from everyone as much as I could especially since I wasn't sure what was going on with my face. We had a good time with our two sons and daughter, our 5 grandchildren and our great-grandson. I haven't been able to hold the baby since March but at least I can see him. Granddaughter sends little videos on snap-chat almost every day.

Monday, when I got up, I could hardly open my eye. We called my doctor's office. I finally was able to speak to someone and explain my problem. They told me to come in. One of the doctors saw me. The first thing she said was, "Have you been gardening?" I have. Anyway, her diagnosis is poison ivy. I have had poison 3 times before. It has been a different experience each time. So, I am on Predisone. The last dose will be tomorrow. There is another prescription for itching and one for something else. Those two prescriptions are for 7 days. They seem to be working. I have stopped scratching and the swelling is going down.

We had been planning to dog-sit for daughter and son-in-law for a week while they are on vacation at a friend's cottage. SIL had returned to their house Sunday night after the barbecue but daughter stayed back to drive me. Himself was scheduled for a stress test Monday morning. He planned to ride his motorcycle here on Tuesday.

After I saw the doctor and picked up my drugs, we packed up the car. When I say packed, I mean packed. There were 2 black labs and our little dog plus a cat in a cat pen. There was a cooler with food I was bringing, my suitcase (at least it was a small one) and her weekend bag. I have a Jeep Cherokee. We had a nice drive although a detour had us 'lost' for a few miles. Her husband was golfing when we arrived.

They have a nice pool which has been wonderful during this hot spell. After she got home, she still had to get ready to go away again. She went grocery shopping at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning. She said that is a good time for her to go because it is not busy. They left about 10 a.m. and Himself arrived about 11. He wanted to do his riding before the heat was too bad.

He 'failed' his stress test. He was walking on a treadmill and his legs got too tired before his heart rate was high enough to be tested. He will have to do the dye test later this month. His legs are still sore.

Things are going well here. All the animals are getting along. We spend lots of time in the pool. I get texts from daughter and they are having a good time too. I expect they will be back Sat. or Sunday. I will probably go back home on Monday.
