Spring Thaw 2014

Spring Thaw 2014 Results

My day started early. I usually get up around 4 a.m. for one of those nighttime visits. Today when I got back in bed, I couldn't get back to sleep. I finally got up and drank some water. I wanted to have 2 cups before leaving the house.

I ate an orange and some brown rice farina with almond butter and dried cranberries. My son called at 7:45, probably to make sure I was up although he didn't say that. We agreed that we would pick him up at 8:30. My grandson has had a strep throat most of the week and couldn't decide whether or not to run today. After we hung up, I had to get Hubby up.

We didn't get away until 8:20. I sent a message to Son so he would know. When we got to his house, Grandson was dressed to come with us but he still didn't know what he was going to do. Son suggested he pick up his number just so he could get the cap that entrants were getting as part of the registration.
It was suggested that he could walk with me but you can imagine how much a 16-year old would want to do that.  Hubby was able to find a parking spot near the activity. We thought it might be best if Grandson stayed with Grandpa where he could stay warm if he didn't want to be outside. He was agreeable.

Yes it was cold. The waiting for the start is the part I dislike the most. They had the kids' runs and told us to begin moving toward our starting position. We were traveling on residential streets that were blocked off. Part of our trip was on Riverside Drive which runs along Lake St. Clair. You could see the ice.

I didn't get many pictures. I was too busy moving but these are some of the runners on their way home after going through the turn-around.
I wasn't quick enough to get a picture of Son when we met.

Results: son finished 5 out of the 18 in his age category with a 23:05 which was about what he was hoping for. He was 49th overall.

I finished 3/3 in my age category with a 50:07 time. I was 292 out of the 294 in the event.

It was a beautiful sunny day. I was grateful there was no snow or rain and the streets were dry. I got a bit of a chill after I stopped moving but I had a nice hot bath after we got home and I am now feeling more comfortable. It was good.
