Memories

Monday morning we will start our journey back to Ontario. It has been a wonderful vacation. We were able to spend time with a Spark friend and her husband in Maine. They are wonderful hosts and it was a great time.
We took a ferry from Saint John, New Brunswick to Digby, Nova Scotia and spent a night with another Spark friend and her husband. We then spent a night in Lunenburg, NS at a nice motel with a beautiful view. We took the scenic drive along the coast as much as possible on our way to Cumberland County to my family home where my sister lives.
While here, we have spent time re-visiting many familiar spots. My sister and I have walked the beach as often as we could. July 1, my husband, sister and I drove to Pugwash for the annual Gathering of the Clans. I like bagpipes and enjoyed the many groups who were participating.
My 70th birthday was July 5. Five of us traveled to Halifax for the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo. I had wanted to see the show since I first heard about it and loved every act. After the show, we made a stop in Bedford for the famous chickenburger.
My brother was kind enough to allow my husband to use his motorcycle so that Hubby and I had a few rides. We were able to have a couple visits with one of Hubby's former navy pals. It was fun to catch up and meet his wife.
And then the finale... We had started to make our plans when we heard the dates for my high school reunion which took place July 10-12. The committee did a great job and everyone had a good time. Friday night there was a 'meet and greet' at Joggins Fossil Museum. Saturday afternoon there was a picnic in the park with musical entertainment. Saturday night was the dinner and dance. Unfortunately, I missed out on the dance because Hubby was not feeling well. I hear that the band was good and played lots of songs we remember. This morning there was a service at the church in Joggins followed by a light lunch. Even Hubby who did not attend the school made some new friends and told me he had a good time.
I have had lobster rolls twice and scallops (my favourite) once. Strawberries are in season here so I had strawberry shortcake two times. Since I didn't get to have shortcake when strawberries were in season in our area, I was a happy girl.
It has been enjoyable walking the paths I walked as a girl. One morning I even saw a bear for the first time. My husband has seen one on two separate occasions in the last couple days but I was not with him.
I had visits with a couple aunts and an uncle and one cousin I hadn't seen since he was a little boy.
I feel very blessed to have had such a good time with mostly good weather.
