Le Chocolat, May 2017

Saturday, May 06, 2017

Another week has quickly passed by. It was a busy week for me. Again, my weight stayed steady - no loss.

There have been heavy rains all week. Areas of the county are flooded. From the news, it sounds like there are other parts of the province and Quebec having flooding too. Fortunately, today there is no rain (here) and the sun is trying to return.

On Friday we went to the city to pick up our race kits for Le Chocolat which will happen on Sunday. Daughter picked up her kit even though she will be unable to run because she hurt her knee playing ball last weekend. We each got a bottle of wine and a nice purple t-shirt in a handy bag, along with our numbers. We went to a fish and chip place for supper. Because it was raining, Hubby dropped us off close to the door and went to park the car.

We enjoyed a nice supper and then stopped for a short visit with son #2 while daughter got her vehicle which we had left at his place.

Hubby and I came home and Daughter went to visit a friend. I decided to take another look at my shirt and to see what else was in the bag. I had left it by my feet when we went inside the restaurant. It wasn't there. I looked into the back seat. No bag. Then I started to look in the box we have between our seats in the van. I had a wedding invitation there for son #1 and his family. I had it in the van so it would be handy when I went to see him.
I couldn't find it.

Hubby admitted he didn't lock the van when we went to the restaurant. (Usually I am the one who locks the van but this time he was the last to leave.) He had backed into the parking spot and we suspect whoever was parked next to us, reached inside and grabbed the race bag and invitation. My thought about the envelope is that it was rather 'chubby' and he thought it contained money.

I can live without the shirt and wine. My son can let his brother know he will be attending his niece's wedding even without the invitation. I can walk the 5K. (My other granddaughter is going to use Daughter's number and walk with me.) But I won't be 'official' and they might not give me any chocolate if I don't have a number. - (my weak attempt at humor)

We arrived home. I looked down the basement steps to see a puddle of water. Not good. Checked the sump pump. It was not running and felt hot so we unplugged it. There was at least an inch of water in the crawl space.

Friday was not the best day this week and it wasn't even Friday the 13th.

We decided to face the mess in the morning. After he got up he used a shop vac to suck up some of the water. He plugged in the sump pump and got it working. It is now doing it's job. The rain seems to have stopped for now and we just commented on a burst of sun. Perhaps today will be a better day.

Le Chocolat 2017

I am home after our busy morning. I was up by 6, called my granddaughter to make sure she was up and still planning to walk with me and then had some slow-cooker oatmeal. Granddaughter lives about 20 minutes away. I picked her up and drove to Windsor. Daughter met us and left her vehicle with Son #2.

We drove downtown, parked in the Casino garage and made our way to the waterfront. It was chilly but at least the rain had stopped and there was sun. We met a few people that we knew. At 9 someone sang both national anthems and the half marathon people made their way to the chute for their start, followed by the 10kers and then those of us doing the 5K. After standing around for an hour, we were eager to get moving.

I had told my granddaughter she did not have to stay with me. I thought she was ahead of me but after we had been walking for a bit, she re-joined me from behind.

We walked along Riverside Drive until a volunteer directed us down toward the water to make our way back to the start. That was nice because we could enjoy the lilacs and other spring flowers in the park. It was a pleasant walk.

All week, I have been wondering how today would go. My walking had slacked off during the winter and my energy hasn't been great. Today everything was working well and I did not feel like I was pushing myself too hard. I was able to keep pace with those around me. I even managed a few running steps as we were getting close to the finish.

Granddaughter seemed to enjoy herself. We gave her the purple "I run for chocolate t-shirt". She got a medal and the chocolate treats even though she was not wearing a number. I was happy about that. I wanted her to enjoy the whole experience. In spite of how things appeared on Friday, it turned out to be a very good morning.

There were 2347 participants in all the events. My time was 52:57. I was hoping to be under an hour so I am happy.

When I got home, Daughter sent me a text (she is on her way home) to let me know she had forgotten something in the back of my car. When I went out, this is what I found. There were several of these boards for displaying medals with different sayings. I had said that this is the one I would pick if I was buying one. Since she could not run, she had time to look around while she was waiting for me and Granddaughter and she got me this for Mother's Day. Don't I have a nice daughter!
