And Now It Is Wednesday

Yesterday (September 6) was a very long day. Himself was scheduled for surgery in London about 50 minutes from where we are staying this week to dog-sit for our daughter.
From his snoring, it sounded like he slept well Monday night. I did not. Monday night our second son arrived to be with us. It is about a 2 hour drive. I was extremely grateful to have him with me. He drove us to the hospital, spent the day with us, drove me back to daughter's and then drove home. I know he was tired too.
We got to the hospital in plenty of time. They wanted Himself there at 10 and we were there shortly after 9. We had made sure the dogs had a good run before being shut up in the house for the day. My son-in-law's mother offered to come over in the afternoon to let them out and feed them. That was such a relief.
At 10 the nurse came to get Himself for the prep. She said it would take about 30 minutes. Son and I went to the lobby to get a coffee and muffin. We each had not wanted to eat in front of Himself so breakfast had been quite light. After the muffin we went back to the waiting room until we were allowed to go to sit with Himself.
Surgery was scheduled for 1. It was not until after 3 that they came to take him to the operating room. Son and I left the hospital to find food. It was only Wendy's but it hit the spot.
Back to wait some more. Son went for a walk and almost got lost. I was sitting in the lobby watching the front doors when he came from behind. Somehow he came through the back of the hospital. We went upstairs to the waiting area and watched the board which gives updates on where patients are.
About 6:30 the surgeon came to let us know the surgery was finished. It had gone well and now Himself has a new aortic heart valve. She said they were waiting for him to wake up. Son and I waited, thinking eventually we would see him. I knew Son wanted to go home so I told him we could leave. Previous to the operation we had told Himself, I probably wouldn't see him until Wednesday. He was okay with that. It was me that needed to see him more.
So, it was after 8 when we were leaving the hospital. That means it was getting dark since it is already September. We had the GPS but it was still a chore to decide which road we wanted to take. We made it back to daughter's by 9. Son still had a couple more hours of driving to get home. At 11:20 he texted me that he had arrived. I went to bed and slept better than I had Monday night.
