Mother's Day, 2019

Sunday Morning

Sunday, May 12, 2019

First of all, I did walk on Saturday.  I walked to the library to return a couple books. It was cooler than I expected.

While Himself was at the Legion playing darts, I cleaned out the cupboard where I keep extra canned goods and the jars I use for canning. I emptied everything out and put down fresh shelf paper. It is such a good feeling when you finish a job like that. Everything is looking so nice and clean. I found a new home for 3 casserole dishes I don't expect to ever need again. That feels good too.

Today we are feeling sad and also thankful. My sister-in-law passed away Friday morning. Today must be especially difficult for her two daughters. Carol suffered a stroke April 10. She has been in the hospital ever since and she was not showing any improvement. Ted saw her Monday morning just before he had his own episode. It was a blessing that she just went to sleep because the prognosis was not hopeful. Carol's funeral will be Wednesday morning.

I have had one Mother's Day phone call - from my daughter. I expect our two sons are pampering their wives which is a good thing.

I think I will go for my Mother's Day walk before it rains. It is looking very unfriendly right now.

The Rest of the Week

Friday, May 17, 2019

The week was a different. Fortunately, we don't have a family funeral every week. Much of Tuesday and Wednesday were spent at the funeral home. Carol's two daughters and 5 grandchildren did her proud. She was a much-loved and respected lady. She was friends with Shirley since they were six. My husband enjoyed hearing Shirley remember seeing his mother pregnant with him.

I didn't actually walk a mile those days but my step count was well over 5000 and according to google, 2,000 steps is 1 mile (on average).

We have finally had some nice weather. Let's hope it continues.
