World Alzheimer's Day Run for Heroes Half Marathon
Sunday, January 11, 2015
I will probably be writing about this several times this year because I know I will be thinking about it a lot. The half-marathon will be held September 20, 2015.
This is a link to the 2013 event. It gives some of the history. ) This year, they decided not to continue with the marathon part of the run because of the expense.
They opened registration for the half on January 9. The first two registrations were from the Windy City of Chicago! On January 10, I registered. It will be my first half marathon. It was during the 2014 Run for Heroes Marathon that I finished my first 10K.
At that time, it was in the back of my mind that walk/running a half marathon would be a good way to mark my 70th birthday in July.
And that is why I will probably be writing about this during the year. Today I started my unofficial training. I got on the treadmill and walked for 2 minutes followed by 90 seconds of jogging with 5 minutes of warm-up at the beginning and 5 minutes of cool-down at the end for a total of 31 minutes. One has to start somewhere.
I am not aiming to break any records; my goal is to finish in a reasonable time. I love reading about active seniors and I want to be one of them.
