On Vacation
Friday, June 19, 2015
This afternoon we will leave for the first 'leg' of our much-awaited vacation. We will drive to our daughter's to leave one of our dogs. (The other one will be staying with our granddaughter near here.) After spending the night with daughter, we will cross into the US and head toward Maine. I haven't heard which route we will be taking but we like to get off the main highway and see the real country.
We have arranged to spend a night or two with a Spark friend and her husband. We previously met them about 3 years ago but this time we will spend some time with them and see some of the things she describes in her Spark blog. Let's hope the weather co-operates.
After leaving them, we are thinking we might drive to Saint John, New Brunswick and take the ferry to Digby, Nova Scotia. We have never taken that ferry and now seems like a good time. Also, by taking that ferry, we will be near to another Spark friend we stayed with about 5 years ago. We had hoped to see them again this trip and we like boat rides so that would work well.
From there we will head home.
All week I have been trying to remember when it was that I was last home. I think we agreed it has been 3 years. That explains why I am feeling a bit homesick.
On July 1, we are planning to take in the Gathering of the Clans www.pugwashvillage.com/i

nts/gathering-of-the-clans We went once about 35 years ago. The only reason that comes to my memory is because of a picture of our sons watching the parade. My sister has never been so it will be a good day.
On July 5 we will drive to Halifax for the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo.
www.nstattoo.ca/ This is an event I have wanted to see since I first heard about it. July 5 is my birthday. I thought this would be a fun way to celebrate, especially since my sister, brother and sister-in-law will all be with us.
July 10-12 will be my high school reunion. I have seen the list of people who plan to attend. My graduating class was small (there were 12 of us) but there are some names on the list I will be excited to see. One name I haven't seen yet is my girlfriend. I hope she shows up. There will be a picnic, dinner dance, tour of the new high school and we will end with a church service. I know it will be nice.
Unfortunately, that weekend will mean vacation is ending. It is because of the reunion that we chose this time to go. I don't particularly like to leave home at this time of year. I enjoy my garden and I know I will miss some of my favourite flowers. However, we will have lots of fun seeing friends and relatives and some of my favourite spots like Joggins jogginsfossilcliffs.net/ ,
Port Greville www.maplandia.com/canada
/nova-scotia/cumberland-co
unty/port-greville/ , Cape D'Or www.capedor.ca/ and so many others. Hubby is planning to see one of his buddies from his Navy days. His disappointment is that we are not taking his motorcycle but he will have a good time anyway.
My suitcase is packed. Now I have some last-minute things to finish up and I will see you again when I can. Who knows, perhaps I will blog more often on vacation than I do the rest of the year.
