New Challenge

This month I am participating in the Great Cycle Challenge. Before the first of June,
people of all ages, abilities and from every province across Canada set themselves a personal riding goal and challenge themselves to pedal throughout June to fight kids’ cancer. I haven't been riding much the last couple years so I chose a modest goal of 100 kilometers (about 62 miles). I wasn't too confident about my ability to seek donations so that goal was modest also - just $100.
Yesterday was my first ride. June 1 was just too hot and humid. Saturday was comfortable; in fact, it felt chilly when we first got up. It was quite a drastic change from the day before.
My first ride was 6 kilometers (3.72 miles). I didn't want to go too far first time out. The seat on my bike is not quite right. It feels like I am sliding forward. Hubby made an adjustment but it needs more fine tuning.
After I was home, I discovered my sister had made a donation. What a boost to my enthusiasm that was!! Later there was another. Today, there were two more which helped me surpass the $100 goal. I raised that goal to $200.
This afternoon I went for another ride. I want to reach the 100 kilometer goal before I go away toward the end of June as then I won't be able to ride. Today's ride was 9 kilometers (5 miles). That means I already have 15 kilometers (9.32 miles) under my belt.
Perhaps by the end of the month I will have the bicycle seat in a more comfortable range (I hope). One summer (it was when I was still working so it was awhile ago), I used to go for a ride every morning before work. At that time I had a little mileage tracker on my bike. It was fun to see how far I could go. I was riding all around the area. Now I have an app on my phone so I guess I can still keep track.
So, I am getting more fit and helping raise funds for kids fighting cancer. It sounds like a win-win, doesn't it?

Yesterday (and this morning)

We woke up to find a much cooler morning. I decided to go for a bike ride since I still needed 25 km to complete my Challenge.
I was away for 3 weeks so it was almost like starting over but I logged another 17 km. That leaves me 8 km to complete this challenge. I can do it.
I was happy to receive the following e-mail: "The website will stay open next month [July], so you can continue to log your kilometres (if you've experienced bad weather, or had a late start etc.) and collect donations throughout July."
I was away for much of June and when I got home again was when we had that extreme hot spell. I knew I couldn't handle riding in those conditions. Yesterday was a nice break in the heat. We were able to turn off the air conditioner and open windows. I understand the heat may return next week. Time will tell.
Since I started riding again, Himself decided I need a better bike. Except for the seat, I was content with the old one but, this morning, we headed to the bike shop. He had looked yesterday and found one he thought I would like. When I tried it, it wasn't quite right. The young man who was waiting on us was so patient. He suggested another bike.

I think he called it a step through. The cross bar was becoming a problem for me to get my leg up and over and this is so much easier. I like the yellow because it is visible. (I know it isn't a great picture but you can get an idea from it). I think I will call her Buttercup. I have never named my bikes in the past but I know ONEKIDSMOM names hers and I like the idea.
Now I will HAVE to continue riding. Can't spend money on new equipment and not use it. That's okay because I do enjoy getting out there.
