Happy Anniversary
Thursday, September 20, 2018
Today is the anniversary of the day I discovered Spark People fourteen years ago. How well I remember that night. When we first got on the internet, I started looking for help with losing weight. Back on that Monday night, Spark People entered my life for the first time. At the time, my weight was close to 230 pounds and it was my desire to get below 200.
Over the years, I feel like I have tried everything that was available. Of course that is not true; there is always some new and improved plan just around the corner or something I was not willing to try. I have quite a collection of 'diet' books. I just couldn't seem to find the right thing for me.
According to what I have written on my Spark page, I eliminated 15 pounds by September 2005. It was another two years before I reached 199. I have never reached my goal weight. I can't even decide what that final goal should be. Currently I am aiming for 175. At last weigh-in I was 188. Will I ever get to 175? Only time will tell.
What have I learned since joining Spark People?
I have learned there are many ways to lose weight. No one plan works for all of us. All plans seem to agree that we need to eat more vegetables and drink more water.
I have learned that consistency is important. I like to see my Spark streaks. They do help me.
I have learned that exercise is important. On September 20, 2015, I was able to walk my first and only half marathon. It remains one of my proudest achievements.

I have enjoyed meeting other Sparks and look forward to meeting more. I like to read the blogs and wish I could be as eloquent. I celebrate with those who reach their goal and get to work on maintenance and cry with those who experience heartbreak. Some are successful and some find it necessary to re-start.
I am grateful to Spark Guy for starting this site. I am grateful for the support from people I have yet to meet. I am grateful for the articles that help me learn. As a recipe-lover, I am grateful for the recipes.
I have recommended Spark People and will continue to do so.
