Spring Thaw 2016

Spring Thaw 2016

Thursday, April 07, 2016

Back in January, I signed up for the annual Spring Thaw 5K to be held on April 10. I have participated in the event the last two years when it was in March.

That's me in the yellow jacket.

It was cold both years but you expect it to be cold in March. I thought it was a safe bet that April 10 would be a nice day. Himself went for a longer motorcycle ride on Easter Sunday. I took that as a good sign that the weather would just get better and better. WRONG!

All week the weather person has been talking about that ugly S word (snow). We have even seen a bit of it. It hasn't been sticking around but it has to be cold to snow. I tend to avoid the cold as much as I can.

For Sunday 'they' predict 39*F with a real feel of 30*. And if that doesn't discourage you 'they' also say there may be some morning snow followed by periods of snow, up to 1", then rain in the afternoon. I know people walk/run in worse conditions but I am a fair-weather athlete.

Me, myself and I have been struggling with this. Will we actually make it to the Spring Thaw? Will our 'Want-to' be strong enough? Son won't be there because he hasn't started training yet which means grandson won't be there either. Himself has a dart tournament so he will be absent (he thinks I am 'off-kilter' because I enter events emoticon but he usually goes with me anyway).

I guess it is wait and see right now. I wonder what the decision will be....

What a Day

Sunday, April 10, 2016

This morning when I got up, there was no snow on the ground. I had my clothes laid out and I had made overnight steel cut oats in the the slow cooker. I decided it was a 'Go' for doing the Spring Thaw 5k. We were in the city on Saturday so I already had my bib. Would you believe I was #1.

I have already written about my day. Unfortunately, that blog was lost in the process. Perhaps that is a good thing because this one is shorter. emoticon

I finished and I was not last - both good things.
