We Have a Date

We have known for several months that Hubby would be getting a new heart valve. The problem was that we did not know when the surgery would be. I never dreamt that we would get a call today, a Friday before a long weekend but that is exactly what happened.
On Wednesday I drove to my daughter's to dog-sit their two black labs while they go on vacation. They are going to a friend's wedding on Saturday and then they will probably do some golfing and enjoy their time off. Daughter and son-in-law left Thursday morning. Thursday afternoon Hubby came here on his motorcycle. He thought it would be enjoyable to go riding on some different roads.
Today, Hubby and I took the bike to Port Stanley for lunch. Port Stanley is a popular summer area. We found a restaurant and ordered lunch. His phone rang. It was his doctor's office. He listened intently to the instructions they were giving him. He is to be at University Hospital in London at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. His surgery will be at 1 p.m.
New dilemma - how to get the bike home. He will not be able to drive for six weeks after the surgery. He wants the bike home in our own garage. I think that problem was just solved. He will ride the bike home. His sister will drive him back part way and I will meet them and bring him the rest of the way. It is a 2 1/2 hour trip so half that isn't too bad. Isn't that often the case - I never imagined his sister being the one of offer help. He had contacted a couple of his biker friends and they were trying to arrange something. But it would seem it is working out.
Before I knew the surgery would happen while I am dog-sitting, I planned to stay in London for a couple nights. (Daughter lives about an hour from the hospital.) With dogs depending on me, I will have to carefully plan my trips back and forth so they aren't stuck in the house too long. They are used to being alone during the day because both their 'parents' work. Of course we have our dogs with us so that is four dogs in the house all day.
From something he said tonight, I know he isn't expecting me to stay at the hospital the whole time he is there. (They told us he would be in ICU for approx. 24 hours and then he would be moved to a regular room for five to six days, and then released if all goes well.)
Are we nervous? You bet your boots we are nervous. I know he is. I think I am more nervous about how I will handle a grumpy hurting man afterwards when he already thinks I can't do anything right and he isn't even hurting.
I might just become a grumpy old woman.
I know everything will work out the way it is supposed to but we would both appreciate any prayers and good thoughts you might feel led to share for us. Thank you.
