On September 20, 2004, I 'found' Spark People. At that time, there was a slight charge to join but it was not an outrageous amount and I made the decision to join - a decision I have been thankful for since I made it. Thank you Spark Guy.

One of my first goals was to get below 200. I did not really work as hard as I probably could have but I made a start and I met some wonderful people. I did not log onto Spark People every day but the website was never very far away. I recently tried to find the Spark Journal I was writing back then but I was unsuccessful. I guess blogs replaced journals.

In September 2005, I went home to spend some time with my mother. The 2-week visit became almost 3 months as I stayed until my mother died in November. I did not have regular internet connection but I logged in when I could and there were a couple of special friends who stood beside me. When I came back here, I went through a 'low' period. I remember when several of my Spark friends reached out and pulled me up. Thank you to those who gave support when I was so low. Thank you also to my husband for his patience when our temporary separation was extended by my mother's illness. She did not express it, but I know my presence was a comfort and I am grateful I could be there.

It was not until August 2007 that I reached 199. I still remember how excited I was to finally achieve that goal. May I never see that number again.

Today I am not at my goal weight. I may never be at my goal weight, but I am at a healthier weight. I will continue to learn how to eat to keep my body healthy and happy and perhaps pounds will be eliminated along the way.

When I was in Nova Scotia this summer, I met some Spark acquaintances. I look forward to future Spark meetings. I am grateful for the meetings that have happened thus far and I look forward to the future.
