Registering for a 10K (Oct. 2013)

First Saturday in October

Saturday, October 05, 2013

We have been enjoying incredible weather. It is the 5th of October and I am still barefoot, wearing capris. We had a few raindrops today but it didn't last very long.

I spent a good part of the morning working in the garden. I finished picking all the tomatoes and pulled the plants. The tomatoes looked lovely this year but they are rather tasteless. We think it might be that they got too much rain earlier in the season. I didn't can any tomatoes. I cut them up and froze them in 2 cup amounts. They should be okay in spaghetti sauce or chili.

I also pulled all the watermelon vines. We still have 4 watermelons but I think they should keep for a bit. I picked the last two cucumbers a few days ago. At this point in the season I am full of enthusiasm for what I want to plant next spring. Let's hope I feel the same way when it is planting time.

After I finished packaging the tomatoes for the freezer, I made an apple pie. The tastiness of the apples makes up for the lack of taste in the tomatoes. Hubby will be happy to have pie. I will limit myself to one small piece.

Just before supper, I registered for next year's World Alzheimer's Day Run For Heroes event. I don't know whether or not you heard, but this year one of the female runners who was registered for the half-marathon, won the full race. She made a wrong turn somewhere on the course. That mistake got a lot of publicity and so they opened registration early for 2014. For the walk I did in September, I registered 3 days before. I can't believe I have already registered for 10K  in 2014. I have some work to do but I have a year to do it.
