Northern Ireland (2012)

Dreams of Ireland

Sunday, January 15, 2012

This is the paragraph that was in our church bulletin on December 18:
'August 16-30, 2012 we will be taking a team to Northern Ireland to partner with Millisle Baptist Church. We will have an information meeting January 8th after the morning service. Start praying now about whether God would have you go.'

I came home from church that day and told Ted I was going to Ireland. My sister has been on several mission trips. Right now she is serving in Moscow. She will be there until June working in a Christian school. I have been nowhere. I travel back and forth between Nova Scotia and Ontario. We have been to Florida twice and Myrtle Beach 3 or 4 times.

I missed the information meeting but I got a copy of the handout that was given to the people who were there. The trip will cost approx. $1500. Ted says it is too much money. I decided I AM going to Ireland. Last evening I was talking to another lady who is hoping to go. I think this would be a good time for me to go. Others from the church are making plans so I would not be traveling alone. I don't have to be concerned about learning another language. I am not getting any younger so if I want to see another part of the world I have to start making plans. I started by looking to see if there is a website. www.millislebaptist.org/

I get excited when I think about it. Ted has been working on his Bucket List; it is time for me to think about mine too.

Countdown to Northern Ireland

Monday, August 06, 2012

In 10 days I will be heading to Toronto with 16 others from my church. We are flying to Northern Ireland to help with Vacation Bible School at Millisle Baptist Church. I have never been outside Canada except for brief visits to the United States. Am I excited? You have no idea.

Unless there is a computer in the home where I am billeted, I will be absent from my teams here on Spark People. Actually, it will probably be good to have a break from the computer as I have a tendency to spend too much time on it.

One Week to Go

Thursday, August 09, 2012

I got up at 4:30 this morning. I am practicing for Northern Ireland. They are 5 hours ahead of us.

It is about 64*F in Belfast this morning. We are much cooler this morning at 68*F than we have been all summer when most days it is at least 80*F. We are getting a light shower. It has been a very dry summer.

Hubby got me some pounds sterling yesterday. I contacted my credit card company so they will be prepared if I happen to use my card over there.

My mind is racing, trying to figure out what I should be doing to get ready. I still need to buy some travel insurance.
