Our Nova Scotia Trip in 2011

Very early Sunday morning (5:20 a.m.) a Via train www.viarail.ca/en left Windsor, Ontario. I was on that train, heading home to Nova Scotia. One of the last things I grabbed before I left the house (at 4:30 a.m.) was my jean jacket. Although it was extremely hot outside, that jacket provided warmth inside the air-conditioned train car. I was happy there was free wi-fi for most of the trip.

In Cornwall, my sister boarded the train. She had spent a week visiting her son, his wife and their 4 children. Just before the train got to Cornwall, I told one of the train personnel my sister was getting on and asked if she would be in the same car as I was. He wasn't sure but before the train stopped, he came to get me and told me we were going looking for my sister. I saw my nephew first. The rest of the family came and there were hugs all round. The stop was only a couple minutes so we didn't have much time together but I was glad for my first chance to see their 5-month old son. My sister and I got back on the train. My seat-mate was kind enough to move so that sister and I could sit together. (The train was quite full.)

In Montreal everyone de-boarded for the next leg of the journey. For some reason our train to Nova Scotia was delayed. We were over an hour late boarding. Sister and I were traveling economy which meant sleeping in our seat. Monday morning we learned the train was continuing to run late. When we reached our destination, we were over 4 hours late. That isn't as bad as it sounds because if I travel on the train again in the next 6 months, my fare will be reduced because of the delays. Apparently, Via has a policy for late arrivals.

Eventually we made it to the farm where my family moved when I was 12. My sister now lives in the farmhouse and my brother lives next door in the smaller, white house he and my father built when brother was getting married.

It is quiet and peaceful here and after the sweltering heat in Ontario, it is more comfortable. I am enjoying some 'down' time, reading and watching the hummingbirds.

Last night I was able to communicate with Hubby on Skype. He will be joining me August 3 or 4. We plan to go to Cape Breton on the motorcycle for a few days, with two other couples.

It is good to be 'home'.
